“Scotland has made continual, committed attempts to bolster its screen industries in recent years, as displayed in an announcement by the country’s public arts body Creative Scotland revealing that more than £3.7m has been offered to film and television productions agreeing to base themselves in Scotland since October 2015, in addition to the £4m already offered to “projects with links to Scotland” each year. This—alongside the establishment of a new £20m screen unit (known now as Screen Scotland) intended to support fledging film production in the nation; a new £3m fund for broadcast content; and the long-discussed plans to build a full-scale Scottish film studio seemingly approaching reality—shows a serious commitment towards feature film and television production within the nation; efforts recognised by £95m in spend from film productions undertaken in Scotland during 2017, compared to just £23m in 2007.”
